The Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering is awarded to engineers responsible for innovations of global benefit to humanity. Past laureates include the inventors of the internet and the World Wide Web, the creators of GPS, and, closer to home, Fei-Fei Li alongside Geoffrey Hinton, Yoshua Bengio, and Jensen Huang for their contributions to modern machine learning. Stanford HAI Founding Director Fei-Fei Li, a QEPrize Laureate, and former Stanford University President John Hennessy, a QEPrize Trustee, discuss what sustains engineering breakthroughs in the age of AI, from open innovation to preparing the next generation. The conversation was moderated by Lord Vallance of Balham, Chair of the QE Prize's Trustee Board. This event was held on October 7, 2026 at Stanford University.
